EW: I know you just started shooting, but what can you tell me at this point about the plot of the movie?
Kermit: I can actually tell you quite a lot because I have a press release in front of me, which makes it very easy! The idea of this film is that our gang is on this global tour, and we’re selling out these grand theaters all over Europe—in Berlin, Madrid, London—but we sort of get into a little bit of trouble when we run across my doppleganger. He’s the world’s number one criminal, Constantine, and he happens to look an awful lot like me. I won’t tell you any more than that, but let’s just say mayhem ensues.
Thank goodness that ended quickly and wasn’t pointlessly dragged out.

At the tribute to Jerry Nelson that took place in New York this weekend, Ryan Roe from Tough Pigs got a chance to talk to Dave Goelz after the event was over. Apparently the next Muppet movie’s script is complete and filming will start in January.

The classic Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are heading for the bigscreen as a musical comedy via a producing partnership between The Gotham Group and puppeteer Kevin Clash.
Project aims to take the dolls — created by Johnny Gruelle for his daughter Marcella — into a contemporary, live-action setting with celebrity cameos accompanying them on their journey. Pic will blend puppetry and CG to bring the characters to life.

For those of you that didn’t know, The Jim Henson Company had some Creature Shop toys out with Chick-Fil-A about a week ago. Also, more recently, the spokesperson for Chick-Fil-A recently state he and the company were “guilty as charged” for supporting anti-gay Christian groups. Chick-Fil-a is a supporter of several Christian groups with anti-gay messages.
The Jim Henson Company, based in L.A., has picked up the film and consumer products rights to 1970s classic children’s book series Frog and Toad, written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. An animated film featuring the comic adventures of the reptile pals is in development, while a licensing program based on the series’ original artwork is underway.
The Lobel series consists of four Frog and Toad books and five short stories that have sold more than 13 million copies over the years and continue to sell in excess of one million copies annually for publisher HarperCollins.
Lisa Henson will produce the animated film slated for release in 2014 on behalf of TJHC, while Adam and Adrianne Lobel are on-board as exec producers. Craig Bartlett (Dinosaur Train and Hey Arnold!) is scripting and Hoodwinked’s Cory Edwards is attached to direct.
As for consumer products, Henson has secured L&M representation rights from HarperCollins Children’s Books and SVP of global consumer products Melissa Segal says she’s not waiting for the movie to start working on a licensing program. She and her team at Henson are taking a two-pronged approach.
At Licensing Show next week, Segal will be talking to potential partners for a classic Frog and Toad program targeting the infant, kids and adult demos. She believes the property sits comfortably among literary classics like Beatrix Potter and Winnie the Pooh. “The books are still read in schools and also resonate with parents,” she says.
To that end Segal will be looking primarily for softgoods (think onesies and layettes for infants, nightwear for kids, and statement-based apparel for adults), accessories, gift and room decor partners to launch a classic Frog and Toad program at US mid-tier and specialty retailers in 2013.
A second, more mass-market, kid-targeted program is in the works for products inspired by the upcoming film, which will have a different look than the property’s line-drawn illustrations.
The Pakistan Today newspaper reported Tuesday that the cause was “severe” financial irregularities at Rafi Peer, citing unnamed sources close to the project. Officials at Rafi Peer allegedly used the U.S. money to pay off old debts and awarded lucrative contracts to relatives, the sources claimed.
Rafi Peer plans to seek alternative sources of funding to continue producing the local version of “Sesame Street,” which is called “Sim Sim Hamara,” or “Our Sim Sim.” The original goal was to reach 3 million children, 1 million of whom are out of school.
Some bad news for international friends today. Here’s hoping those three seasons already filmed rerun strong and dealings are tied up quickly and allegations handled thoroughly.

Yessir, it looks like the next Muppet movie is well on its way to being made! Over at Collider.com Nicholas Stoller discusses the first stages of the new Muppet movie, and also releases some not known info out to the rest of the world. Here’s what we now know:
- The Muppet Sequel is going to be a comedy caper.
- Disney really wants the sequel and they want it as soon as possible. Stoller says Disney wants to release it summer 2013 but he doesn’t think that’s realistic.
- Jason Segel might cameo.
- The sequel will introduce new Muppets.
- Bobin and Stoller started writing the script yesterday. They wrote 13 pages after outlining the entire movie over the past few weeks.

According to ToughPigs, the Muppets will be earning their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 20 at 11:30am. They’ve stated that: “According to the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s website, speakers at the ceremony will include Disney President Rich Ross, The Jim Henson Company CEO Lisa Henson, and Jason Segel.” And knowing the Muppets, they’ll most likely be showing up as well!

As wonderful is this is, people still haven’t realized that the Jim Henson Company is no longer associated with The Muppets. They are two separate companies, entirely separate business entities. So color me confused. I’m more inclined to believe these guys don’t realize this over the fact the companies are working together.
For years Jim Henson’s beloved Muppets had been relegated to forgettable TV movies and embarrassing commercials until rising comedian/screenwriter Jason Segel spun the success of Forgetting Sarah Marshall into a tool to push his ultimate passion project, The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. Of course, while his enthusiasm remained high, the title later changed to The Muppets, and the resulting film proved to be a fun family comedy that thrilled audiences and critics alike, and even won an Oscar for its pivotal anthem “Man or Muppet.” So a sequel of sorts seemed guaranteed. Sadly, Vulture reports that while Disney has made a deal with Muppets director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller to create a sequel to the winsome adventure, it looks like The Muppets’ spearheader Segel may be left out.
The two articles I’ve read on the matter (over at Vulture and Cinema Blend) have mainly put focus on the fact that Segel wont be returning to lead the charge on the new Muppet film, since he has other movie projects coming out and he’s still doing work on How I Met Your Mother, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if she still got a part, or at least a cameo bit.
All that being said, OH MY GOD MUPPET MOVIE GAAAAAH!

Linz said he was happy to get a photo sent to him from the pre-ceremony “red carpet” outside of the Kodak Theatre in Los Angles, CA, from friend and fellow actor, Eric Jacobson, who plays Miss Piggy in the film. But although he wasn’t at the Academy Awards, Linz received the “red carpet treatment” thanks to his friend and neighbor, Nancy Diamond of Katonah, who hosted an an Oscar-viewing party Sunday night.
Linz, accompanied by his wife, Marlene, and their children, arrived to find a red carpet lining her front walk and a sign labeling her door as the “VIP stage door entrance.” Decor included gold statuettes and coasters labeled with Linz’s name fashioned after the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
My god, best neighbors ever!
